Upcycled Plaid Scarf Wreath

December 06, 2022 12 Comments
Here in Washington, the snow has really been snowing! So I decided that I needed a new winter wreath. I browsed Pinterest for some inspiration, and I found several cute scarf wreaths. My favorite was a pin for a green plaid scarf wreath that was also upcycled, and I also was inspired by a pin for holiday wreath that has different plaid fabrics. Why haven't I heard of scarf wreaths before!?!  Ideally, I would have liked to use a crochet or knit scarf to make a scarf wreath like in the pin I found for a super quick knit scarf wreath. But I when I started this project, I couldn't think of a scarf that I've already made that would be good for this project... But just now while I'm typing this, I thought of a denim knit scarf I made years ago that would've been perfect for this. I think it's in my closet somewhere, so when I find it, I might make another scarf wreath. 😁 Anyhoo, I decided to upcycle a plaid dress my daughter outgrew awhile ago for this project.

Easy Upcycled Crochet Christmas Ornaments

November 01, 2022 20 Comments
Christmas is fastly approaching, so I figured it was time to get to work on some ornaments to add to my Seattle Seahawks themed Christmas tree. I usually buy a few new ornaments, but this time I thought it would be more eco friendly to create some new ornaments by upcycling some old ornaments that have lost their shine. I wanted to find a way to bring new life to some old ornaments that I haven't used in years, so I searched Pinterest and found a pin for a quick and easy way to upcycle ornaments with crochet. Since I have a Seahawks themed Christmas tree, I grabbed some blue and green yarn and a crochet hook and got to work!

Pencil Pillow Redo

October 04, 2022 14 Comments
Welcome to the October Sustainable Pinterest Challenge! This month's theme is Zero Waste, and I thought this would be a great time to remake a pencil pillow that I made back in 2017. Since the theme is Zero Waste, I unraveled the yarn I used to make the original pillow and reused it and the bolster pillow form that was inside the pillow to create a new pillow. I usually would just throw the yarn away and totally start over, but it is best to reuse things when you can. I originally crocheted the pillow, and over the years it had some wear and a coffee stain (I washed it to remove the stain).  I saw a pin for a super cute knit Pencil Pillow on Pinterest, but since my knitting skills are very very basic, I decided to use my circular knitting machine.

Upcycled Denim Reversible Bucket Hat

August 02, 2022 18 Comments
Welcome to the August Sustainable Pinterest Challenge! This month's theme is Upcycle, so I decided to make another fun denim creation from jeans that my fast growing kids have outgrown. I love crafting with denim, and I have a board on Pinterest dedicated to denim crafts and more called Denim Delights. Last month while creating my Reversible Bucket Hats, I searched through Pinterest for inspiration, and I pinned a few denim bucket hats. One bucket hat pin had belt loops around the middle of the hat, and that was super cute. Another hat that I pinned had pockets and other cool parts of the jeans included on the hat. So I was "pinspired" by these hats to create my own denim bucket hat. And I decided to use the same Reversible Bucket Hat Pattern by Sweet Red Poppy that I used to create my other bucket hats.

Upcycled Frayed Denim Scarf

March 14, 2022 12 Comments
I love crafting with denim, so whenever it's time for an upcycle challenge, I round up all the old jeans I can find and get to cutting and sewing! There are just so many things you can create with old jeans. For the March Upcycle Challenge Blog Hop, I decided to create a frayed denim scarf using several pairs of jeans that my kiddos have outgrown. Kids grow so fast, so they're always outgrowing their clothes. I usually donate their clothes, but I like to hang on to the jeans for projects like this one.

Welcome to the April Pinterest Challenge! The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate us to not just pin, but to make it happen! Since April is Earth Month, so for this month's challenge, we're sharing upcycled/eco-friendly crafts. Whenever I think of upcycling, I think of denim. I love creating with denim, and I've wanted to create a denim and crochet scarf for a while. So I searched for ideas, and I was inspired by Pin of an upcycled denim and crochet scarf.

Upcycled Denim Crochet Hook Case

March 08, 2021 12 Comments
Welcome to the March Upcycle Challenge! For this month's challenge, I've decided to sew a crochet hook case using a pair of jeans that my son has outgrown. One of my favorite fabrics to work with is denim! I just love denim projects, and I have a whole Pinterest board full of denim creations called Denim Delights. I received a Furls Crochet Hook as a gift for Valentine's Day, and I decided to make a case for it.

Seahawks Themed Porch Sign

May 11, 2020 12 Comments
Welcome to The Outdoor Decor & Entertaining Ideas Blog Hop! This month my blog friends and I are sharing outdoor decor or entertaining ideas such as lawn or deck decor, DIY projects for outdoors, gardening projects, wreaths, or outdoor party decor. So I decided to finally decorate an old door I bought at a local antique store. I was looking for an old shutter to use to make a porch sign, but I found a whole door instead!

Upcycled Let It Bloom Stamped Books Set

February 10, 2020 9 Comments
This month I've joined my blogging friends for the February Upcycle Challenge. For this month's challenge, I'm sharing a stamped book stack I made using a set of children's books my kiddos no longer read. After seeing these book stacks on tiered tray all over Instagram, I'm finally glad to make my own, so I can add them to my tiered tray decor.

Denim Overall Backpack

September 09, 2019 8 Comments
This month I've joined my blogging friends for the September Upcycle Challenge. For this challenge, my friends and I are creating upcycle projects with fabric. One of my favorite fabrics to work with is denim! I just love denim, so I decided to take a pair of my son's old overalls that he outgrew awhile ago to create a fun denim bag. I haven't sewn anything in a couple years, so it was fun to dust off my old sewing machine.

Entryway Bench For a Shoe-Free Home

April 08, 2019 6 Comments
Every now and then I enjoy giving a piece of furniture a makeover, so this month I decided to join my blogging friends for the April Thrift Store Find Makeover Challenge. For this challenge, my friends and I are creating projects using thrift store finds of $20 or less. This month I'm sharing a bench I found at Goodwill. Since I declared our home as a shoe-feee zone, I needed a bench to place in the entryway for guests to sit on to take off their shoes. (The kids and I usually sit on the stairs to put our shoes on and take them off). I don't want yucky shoes tracking germs into our home, especially since we have two young children who love to crawl around on the floor. And sometimes my husband tracks in strange things when he wears his work boots. So I must say I was so pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon this bench at the local Goodwill.  I had to get it, especially since it was only $12.99!

Halloween Witch Boots

October 08, 2018 18 Comments
It's time for another Upcycle Challenge! For the October Upcycle Challenge, my blog group and I are creating upcycle projects using old clothes, cloth, or material. So I thought it would be perfect to share the upcycled Halloween Witch Boots that I made using an old pair of maternity shorts. To create the boots, I searched around the World Wide Web for a sewing pattern, and I found an awesome pattern and tutorial for Witch Shoe Treat Bags or Silverware Holders.  So here are some pics from my sewing adventure:

Wonder Woman Inspired Chair Makeover

July 09, 2018 16 Comments
Every now and then I enjoy giving a piece of furniture a makeover, so this month I decided to join my blogging friends for the July Upcycle Challenge. For this challenge, my friends and I are creating a project using a thrift store find of $10 or less. So back in May, I purchased a really cute antique desk for my daughter at a local antiques shop. Of course, the desk needed a chair. So I ventured off to the local Good Will...

Denim Patchwork Mackinaw Coat

October 09, 2017 4 Comments
It's fall, y'all! And that means the temperatures are cooling down, and winter is just around the corner. Last year, I decided to be brave and make my son a coat. Since I enjoy upcycle/refashioning projects, I decided to make the coat with denim from old jeans. For this coat, I used the Mackinaw Coat pattern by Call Ajaire), and I love this pattern!

Kitchen Bar Stools

July 10, 2017 12 Comments
The kitchen in our home has a counter that is also a bar, so I was glad when I stumbled upon three bar stools at the local Goodwill. Although we have a dining room table, we prefer to eat at the counter and sit on our stools. It just seems like more fun! I've changed out the fabric on the seats of the stools a couple times, but I recently changed them up a bit more with some paint. So I thought these stools would be perfect to share for the Upcycle Challenge Blog Hop. After checking out my stools, I hope you'll stop by my blogging friends' blogs to see what they found at their local thrift stores.

Colorful Ribbon Wall Art

September 03, 2016 6 Comments
Since we moved to our current home a couple years ago, I've been constantly decorating and redecorating. I've changed the theme of our master bathroom three times! Most recently, I decided that I wanted a colorful bathroom after coming across a cute shower curtain and its colorful matching accessories. I also remembered some wall art I saw while watching a show on one of my favorite channels, HGTV. I can't remember which show it was on, but I did snap a picture of it for inspiration.

Handmade Photo Album Made With Baby Clothes

August 26, 2016 8 Comments
Today is my daughter's 5th birthday! Yay! To celebrate, we will be spending a fun-filled day at a local fair where there'll be lots of fun rides and animal friends to meet and pet. I'm not into birthday parties at all. I prefer to spend birthdays having quality family time. So since today is her birthday, I thought I'd share a project that is special to me. I created a photo album for my daughter that includes her actual baby clothes and pictures of her wearing those clothes! I wanted to created something special using her baby clothes, and I've seen lots of quilts made from baby clothes, but I'm not a quilter. And at the time I had only been sewing for a year, so making a quilt seemed intimidating, so I came up with this idea instead.

To create this massive cloth photo album, I used felt, yarn, photos of my daughter, vinyl, and some of my daughter's old baby clothes. I selected a few of her outfits and cut them up to fit onto a sheet of felt.  I sewed them onto the felt and used the left over fabric from the cut up clothes to make backgrounds for the photo pages.  The photo album features pictures of my daughter wearing the clothes that were cut up for this photo book. Now on to the pictures!

Entryway Bench for a Shoe-Free Home

July 17, 2016 12 Comments
Just the other day I was telling my husband that I wanted a bench to place in the entryway for guests to sit on to take off their shoes before stepping on our carpet. I don't want germy shoes on our carpets since we have two young children who love rolling around on the floor. And sometimes my husband tracks in strange things when he wears his work boots. So I must say I was so pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon this bench at the local Goodwill. However, I almost didn't get it because I didn't want to find a new place for the dresser that was in the entryway, but I ended up putting it in my craft room. Anyhoo, I decided that I had to get it since I just had a conversation with the husband about wanting one, and it was only $12.99!

Antique Hutch Makeover

May 29, 2016 14 Comments
When we lived in Georgia, I purchased a hutch from one of my favorite antique shops for only $100. I put the hutch in our living room and used it as a shelf for our DVD/Blu-Ray collection. I've found that whenever we move, we have to figure out how to fit all our furniture in our new home, so the hutch ended up being in the kids' playroom, which is attached to the living room. When I bought the hutch, it was black, but now that it's in the playroom, I decided it definitely needed to be brightened up with some color! So I finally got around to painting it.

Upcycled Denim Owl Pillow

April 20, 2016 0 Comments
In honor of Earth Day, I decided to do a couple denim upcycle projects. One of my goals for this year is to do more upcycling. I love upcycling with denim... Well, I love how the denim projects turn out, but I hate sewing denim!

I've made several owls before (like 20), so I used one of my favorite owl patterns, the Snuggly Owl, which has a great tutorial. My owl isn't exactly like the Snuggly Owl featured in the pattern because I skipped the center strip, bodice, and the feet. I also made my eyes differently than the owl in the pattern.
