Crochet Garden Salad Scarf

One of my goals for this year is to use up a good amount of the yarn in my stash and to make projects from my many pattern books. My favorite crochet designer is Twinkie Chan, and I own both of her books, but I haven't made all the patterns from this. So I decided to make her Garden Salad Scarf. It was such a fun project to make! With many of her patterns, I'm used to crocheting several pieces and stitching them together to form the scarf, but with this project, the lettuce for the salad is crocheted all in one piece. Then you sew on the veggies. This pattern can be found in Twinkie Chan's book Twinkie Chan's Goodies for Fashion Foodies.
I used a variegated green yarn (Caron Cakes Pistachio) to create the lettuce of the scarf, which is crocheted with a fun stitch.

Crocheting the ruffle of the scarf was also fun.

I added the dark green border using Vanna's Choice Kelly Green yarn, and I mysteriously got a craving for salad while I was crocheting this scarf...😁

Once the main body of the scarf is complete, it's time to make the veggies. I crocheted the tomatoes with Vanna's Choice Scarlet yarn. The mushrooms were crocheted with Caron Simply Soft Bone yarn, For the Eggs, I used Caron Simply Soft Sunshine and Caron Simply Soft White. For the cucumbers, I used Vanna's Choice White and Vanna's Choice Kelly Green. And for the radishes, I used Caron Simply Soft White and Caron Simply Soft Watermelon

After I crocheted all the veggies, I used a yarn needle to sew them onto the scarf. I also used Red Heart Super Saver Pumpkin to create the shreds of carrot. At 88 inches long, this scarf is very long!

This scarf is currently available in my Etsy shop. I may have to make another for myself!

  7. Hi Tonna, your scarf inspires me to create a scarf based on a traditional food from my country Indonesia called Nasi Liwet. It is basically a rice dish served with chicken, eggs, tempeh and tofu and and vegetables. The main scarf will be in white while the proteins and vegetables will be scattered all over the scarf, pretty much just like yours. I'm still working on another project so the scarf is not made yet, but I have figured out what it'll look like. Thanks for inspiring me.
