Blue Hats for Hat Not Hate

Yesterday, I shipped off some handmade hats for the anti-bullying campaign, Hat Not Hate. Hat Not Hate asks crocheters and knitters to donate handmade blue hats to be distributed to schools. The blue hats are Hat Not Hate's symbol for eradicating bullying. As a mom of two and a former educator, I am all for eradicating bullying, so I searched my yarn stash for blue yarn and got to work.
After searching my stash for blue yarns and gathering my tools, I picked a few patterns that I thought would be quick and fun. I'm so used to using a 4mm crochet hook, but for these hats, I used a 5.5mm crochet hook. I used a Clover Pom Pom Maker to make the pom poms for the hats.

I made this hat with Caron Simply Soft Peacock Feather yarn, and I followed the Hello Pam Beanie pattern by Snappy Tots.

For this hat, I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Denim Mist yarn, which is one of my favorites. I followed the Puff Stitch Beanie Pattern by A Crafty Concept.

This pattern is so fun! I love the spirals at the top instead of the usual pom pom, which I'm not that great at cutting into the perfect puffy ball... This hat was created by following the Delaney Hat pattern by Danyel Pink Designs. The yarns I used are Red Heart Super Saver Bon Bon Print and Red Heart Super Saver Turqua

I made these hats with the Hello Pam Beanie pattern, and this pattern worked up so quick and was easy to memorize. This Caron Simply Soft Saturday Blue Jeans yarn is one of my favorite yarns ever! I decided to make one with a pom pom and one without.

I made a couple more hats with the Hello Pam Beanie pattern, but for these I used Red Heart Super Saver Shaded Dusk yarn.

So... The Hello Pam Beanie really did become my go-to pattern. I created this on with Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Denim Mist yarn. I really really really love denim yarns. I decided not to add a pom pom to this one.

So... I made this hat with the intentions of donating it to Hat Not Hate, BUT my son loved it, and the hat disappeared from my pile... 😁

Making these hats inspired me to try something new. The deadline to get these hats to Hat Not Hate is September 13th, so I felt like I was running out of time, so I decided to give loom knitting a try. My daughter turned 10 recently, and I bought her a loom kit.  I saw how fast she created her first hat, so I borrowed the child sized loom and made these three blue hats. The one on the far right is my favorite. I loomed these hats with Red Heart Super Saver Royal Blue and Red Heart Super Saver Blue yarn.  Whenever I crochet with Red Heart Super Saver, I always soften it by soaking/washing the yarn or finished item in unscented fabric softener.

Each hat has a wooden #HatNotHate tag.

So this year, I'm donating 11 hats. Next year, I hope to donate more!

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my hats! Have you heard of Hat Not Hate before? Next year, I will definitely get started making hats earlier, so I can send more to this awesome cause.
