Colorful Frankenyarn Blanket

My goal for every year is to use up as much of my yarn as possible. However, my stash just doesn't seem to go down. It's like it's having yarn babies. 😃 So I enjoy a good Craft Room De-Stash Challenge. For this de-stash challenge, my blog friends and I created new projects from supplies already in our craft supply stash. My stash is full of yarn, so I crocheted a blanket with one of my favorite patterns, the Frankenyarn Blanket by Projectarian
I decided that I wanted to use up my many Caron Cakes. I had a couple more, but they are now all gone. Some of the Caron Cakes I used were Rainbow Sprinkles, Faerie Cake, Red Velvet, Blueberry Muffin, Lime Twist, Funfetti, and Key Lime.

I crocheted 25 squares with with 3 strands of yarn to make the blanket thick and warm. I mixed random colors together. I enjoyed watching the random color changes occur. Since I crocheted with 3 strands of yarn, I used a size 8mm hook.

I crocheted a gray border around each square.

The gray borders were crocheted with Bernat Softee Chunky True Grey. I had 30 skeins of this yarn in my stash, and this large blanket only used 9!

I laid out all the squares on the floor to kinda decide what order I wanted to join the squares in. I used a continuous join as you go method. I reference a YouTube video by Hooked on Robin to remind me how to join the squares. For me, joining the squares is the fun part.

Joining the corners could be a little tricky...

joining the last square... For the gray chunky yarn, I crocheted with a size 6mm hook.

I added a pom pom border to the blanket.

All done!

I made this blanket to kind of match the many colors of my curtains and rug (I'm getting a new rug this week.) Since my couch and ottoman are so dark (slate gray), I had to have some colorful curtains and decor.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my latest crochet creation! Now, scroll down to see what my blogging friends created from their craft stashes.

    1. Thanks! Yes, it grew really fast! Even my husband was surprised. He was like, "It was just a bunch of squares yesterday." 🤣 I love joining the squares with the continuous join method.

  9. Beautiful blanket.

One thing I'm doing that is helping with destashing is targeting the yarn that isn't coming back. I have so much yarn that is left over from projects I won't make again, yarn I bought and then it didn't work for a project, or stuff people gave me and it wasn't useful right away and it went to live in my stash. The last few years I've targeted that yarn and my stash has decreased.

I still replace the yarn I always use and I buy yarn that I want to try but I'm not continuing to house yarn that isn't in regular rotation.

    1. I need to get rid of all my yarn! My aunt uses yarn for some craft projects, and I told her I'll send her some soon. I want to go through my stash and decide what yarns I definitely have projects in mind for and want to keep and the yarns I have no use for and get rid of them. I've gone through my yarn before and donated some to GoodWill.
