Fishy Wall Decor

August 17, 2021 14 Comments
Welcome to the August Pinterest Challenge! The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate us to not just pin, but to make it happen! Since today is National Thrift Shop Day, we are sharing thrift/upcycle projects. I haven't visited a thrift shop lately, but I recently decided to repaint some fish I purchased from a thrift store a few years ago. I originally bought the fish for my son's nautical nursery, but now he's older and has a Spiderman themed room. So I recently decided to change my kiddos' bathroom from a Mickey Mouse theme with a black Mickey Mouse shower curtain and a black Mickey Mouse shaped rug to a brighter fish theme. So I pulled the fish from our storage shed and got to work repainting them. I also checked Pinterest for inspiration, and I found this pin of cool wooden and ceramic fish.

Crochet Coastline Cushion

June 14, 2021 12 Comments
I've been wanting to some pillows for my porch chairs to make it pretty and comfy for summer, and I'm so glad I finally got around to it! One of the pillows I really wanted to make was an anchor pillow. As a Navy wife, anchor crafts are a must! I was inspired to finally get around to this project by joining the Summer Crafts Challenge Blog HopEach month, a group of craft, home decor, and recipe bloggers co-host a themed blog hop. This month, we’re all sharing Summer Crafts and Projects.

Nautical Antique Rocking Horse

June 16, 2017 8 Comments
A few years ago when my daughter was still a toddler, my father gave us an antique rocking horse for her to play with. I knew that eventually I'd like to give it a makeover. Well, I finally got around to it! I figured I should go ahead and repaint it before my son outgrows it. Since his room has a nautical theme (and I love all things nautical!), I decided to paint it to match the theme of his room. So it just happens to be red, white, and blue.

Patriotic Burlap Wreath

June 28, 2016 8 Comments
I realized today that Independence Day is just around the corner, so I put together a patriotic wreath using some burlap I picked up at the store a while ago. This is my first time making a burlap wreath like this. I've made a burlap rag wreath which I love, so I was really looking forward to giving this type of burlap wreath a try.

Anchors Aweigh Wreath

June 26, 2016 18 Comments
Since my son's room has a nautical theme, I decided to create a nautical themed wreath for his bedroom door. I recently found some burlap with red and blue anchors, and I bought a bunch of it. I used some last week to create a Patriotic Burlap Wreath for our front door, and today I used the rest to create this nautical wreath for my baby boy.

Fishy Crochet Baby Blanket

When I learned that I was pregnant with a baby boy, I was so excited to get started on his nautical themed nursery. I had stumbled upon some nautical fabric that I fell in love with an new that I wanted to use it to make things for my son's nursery. And since I crochet, I also wanted to crochet him a nautical themed blanket.

Wall of Fish

February 27, 2016 0 Comments
I consider all rooms in our home a work in progress. I am always adding new decor and moving things around. My son's nursery is no exception. I added fish to the wall above his crib in his nautical nursery. Since I made him a crochet fish blanket, I feel that these fish really go well with the theme of his nursery. I'm sure I'll be making changes to his nursery again when he outgrows his crib and moves on to a toddler bed.

Ahoy Matey Nautical Crib Skirt

January 05, 2016 0 Comments
While I was pregnant with my son, I kept busy by sewing decor for his nautical nursery. I made a diaper stacker, crib quilt, curtains, and crib skirt for his nursery. I used fabric from Michael Miller's Ahoy Matey collection. While I was searching for ideas for my son's nursery, I was inspired by a valance I found.

So I decided to create a crib skirt using several fabrics from the Ahoy Matey collection.  I recycled the crib skirt from my daughter's nursery bedding, so that I'd have the sizing correct and wouldn't have to use any new fabric for the part of the crib skirt that would be hidden under the mattress.

Ahoy Matey Diaper Stacker & Quilt

January 02, 2016 0 Comments
While I was pregnant with my son and impatiently awaiting his arrival, I made several items for his nautical nursery including a diaper stacker and quilt. The nautical fabric I used is from Michael Miller's Ahoy Matey collection. I fell in love with this fabric when I stumbled upon it online. Since I'm not a quilter, I ordered the fabric that's already quilted and added navy blue bias tape to finish it off. The quilted fabric is double sided, so one side has the Ahoy Matey fabric and the other side has navy anchor fabric.
