Knit Jute Trivets

My mother fell in love with a "crochet" jute pot holder she saw online, but it was sold out. So she mentioned it to me. Of course, I took the hint and headed to Hobby Lobby for some jute to make a couple pot holders/trivets for her. The example she showed me looked very knit, not crochet, so I had to dig out my knitting needles and get to work. I'm not sure if I was knitting or purling, but I got them done! 😆😆😆
This is the 3 ply jute I purchased from Hobby Lobby.

I decided that I wanted to add a wooden ring to the trivets, so I bought these.

The potholder/trivet my mother found online was 8" square, so the firs trivet I made was 8" square. I used my circular knitting needles for this one, and I knitted a basic knit stitch... I think.😆 Jute is interested into knit with. I wore crafting gloves because it irritated my hands.

As the trivet got closer to 8 inches, I decreased one corner.  I added the wooden ring to the decreased corner by crocheting it on.

Here's the 8" square trivet all done! I knitting as tight as a could, so it curled a bit, but I steam blocked it to stop the curling.

Oncce I finished the 8" trivet, I decided to make one that was a little bit bigger. I decided to use a different set of knitting needles. I decided that I wanted this trivet to be 9" square.

I knitted until the trivet was 9" square and crocheted the ring onto the trivet just like with the first trivet.

Here's the 9" square trivet.

Both trivets are complete and have been shipped across the country to my mom, and she really liked them. I still have a bunch of jute left, so maybe I'll make a few more. We'll see... 😁
