Christmas Scarf Hat

Welcome to The Christmas in July Blog Hop! This month my blog friends and I are sharing our Christmas themed creations. Christmas is my favorite holidays, and I love crocheting Christmas themed creations. For this blog hop, I'm sharing a Christmas creation that is both a hat and a scarf. I decided to use my Addi Express King Size circular knitting machine to make this hat scarf. I found a video tutorial on YouTube for The Super Santa Scarf Hat, and I followed the instructions in the video to create my own Christmas scarf hat.
A few years ago, I crocheted a corner to corner scarf with sparkly Christmas yarn, and I had it for sale in my Etsy shop, but it has yet to be purchased. Someone did show interest in it, but he wanted know if there was a matching hat. I had not made a matching hat... Well, I decided to unravel the scarf and create a new project.

I rolled the Christmas yarn (I Love This Yarn Christmas Sparkle) into balls, and I grabbed a couple balls of white yarn (Red Heart With Love White) from my stash for the hat's brim.

I followed the instructions in the video and "knitted" 335 rows with the Christmas yarn.

Then I attached the white yarn and "knitted" for 40 rows.

Then I added some waste yarn and "knitted" for 5 rows.

I removed the scarf hat from the knitting machine and folded the white end upward. Then I grabbed a 5mm crochet hook.

I used the 5mm crochet hook to create the brim by joining the end of the hat to where the Christmas and white yarn meet. This part is very tricky because you have to make sure you grab all the stitches or you will drop a stitch, and that's a disaster for me because I am a crocheter who has not mastered the art of picking up dropped knit stitches. In fact, this is the second time I made this hat scarf. The first time, I got to this point and missed two stitches. I tried to pick them up, but it didn't look right, so I unraveled and started over.

The brim has been created.

Now, it's time to move on to the other end of the scarf hat.

I cinched it closed.

I'm going to add a big, fluffy white pom pom, so I attached this snap button thingy.

Ta-Da!  I really like this 6 inch fluffy faux fur pom pom.

This scarf and hat combo will keep both your head and neck warm.

This scarf hat is approximately 72 inches long.
