The Daddy Did My Hair Dress

I cannot believe that in ten days, my daughter will celebrate her 5th birthday! The years are flying by so fast. And next month, she will start kindergarten. So as a countdown to my daughter's birthday, I will share posts featuring items I've sewn for her over the years all month long. Today I'm sharing The Daddy Did My Hair Dress.

Have you ever seen something so stinkin' cute that it made you crack up laughing in the middle of a store?  Well, when I saw a onesie that read, "daddy did my hair,"  I was really tickled. I imagined my husband trying to do our daughter's hair... That would be interesting. Anyhoo, I bought the "daddy did my hair" onesie and two colorful bandanas. The onesie was size 18 months.

I folded the bandanas in half to form triangles, and I ironed them.

I cut both bandanas along the fold, so now I have 4 triangles.

Then I measured 5 inches from the side corners and cut them off.

All 4 pieces look like this after I cut the side corners off.

Then I put 2 of the bandana halves together and sewed the sides together. I did this with the other halves also.  When sewing at 2am, the stitches may not be perfect... haha

Then I layered the pieces together.

I folded the top down about a 1/2 inch and sewed all around the top.  Then I folded the top down 1 inch and sewed a gathering stitch... High tension with the longest stitch. Then I pulled the thread to gather.

Then I sewed the skirt onto the onesie.

Since the onesie is left intact, there's no need for a diaper cover!

I added a couple star buttons.

ta-da!
