Fall Leaves Masks

Welcome to the September Sustainable Pinterest Challenge! This month's theme is Nature, so I searched Pinterest for nature inspired craft ideas. And eventually I found and pinned some really cute masks with fall leaves, flowers, and owls. I searched through my fabric stash, and I found some fall fabrics, owl fabric, and pretty floral fabrics. So I got to work stitching them up using the 3D No Fog Face Mask tutorial I found on YouTube.

SUPPLIES:
3D No Fog Face Mask tutorial (YouTube)
sewing clips or pins
Here are some of the fabrics I used to created my nature inspired masks. I followed the instructions in the 3D No Fog Face Mask tutorial to create a template for the masks. Then I cut out the fabric in the shape of the template with a rotary cutter.

I put two pieces right sides together and stitched around the edges leaving the sides open.

I flipped it right sides out, and then folded the open ends in about a half inch.

I use a pipe cleaner for the nose wire. I folded and twisted a pipe cleaned and cut it down to about 4 inches.

I inserted it and pinned it in place. Then I stitched around it to secure it in place.

Next, I folded the fabric like an envelope and pressed along the folds.

Then I stitched along the folds very close to the edge.

I folded the corners down and clipped them in place.

It's important to use clips that match your fabric... okay, not really, but it makes it more fun. šŸ˜

I stitched all those folded corners down into place.

And finally, I inserted the elastic bands into the open ends and clipped them in place.

I sewed the open ends closed to secure the elastic bands.

Ta-Da!šŸ‚

So now I have 6 fall leaves masks.

I decided to make couple masks with pretty flower fabrics for myself. My in-laws requested that I make them some masks, so I made the owl masks for my mother-in-law since she likes owls. I made them a bunch of other masks as well, but they're mostly PokƩmon and Toy Story masks.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my Fall Leaves Masks. If you'd like to make your own, check out the 3D No Fog Face Mask tutorial by Driftwood and Twine↓Please scroll down to check out the nature inspired creations by the other Sustainable Pinterest Challenge participants.↓

  1. Your masks turned out beautifully, the fabrics are so lovely. That looks like a great pattern too, the fit of the nose is so important, especially as the weather cools and we go from cold outside to warm inside - lots of steamed up glasses otherwise!

    1. Thanks so much! My glasses don't steam up with these masks. Other masks had me contemplating having Lasik surgery, so I wouldn't have to deal with fogging glasses anymore. lol

  2. Your masks are beautiful, T'onna. I wish we didn't need them anymore, but I keep hearing about new cases and strains of the virus.

    1. Thanks, Ann! I thought I was done making masks, but nope! If I need to wear a mask, I at least want it to be a cute and fun mask.

  4. Your masks are so pretty and festive looking for fall! That's a great pattern, especially with the nose fit. Your masks sure do look much better than the ones I sewed a while back!

  6. Great choice in fabrics. I always carry a mask with me just in case I go somewhere where it is required and having colorful ones for each season is make it more fun. Pinned!

    1. Thanks! I agree. Where I live, we're required to wear doctor's appointments, so I make sure I have a cute mask.

  7. They turned out so cute! Much better than the plain, ugly ones for those in areas that have to wear them. You're sewing talents far exceed mine at the moment lol. The fabrics are beautiful. I need to break out my new sewing machine to make some to make fall pillows! The green, orange, & mustard yellow would fit in perfectly with my early fall decor.
