Black and White Bohasaurus

Welcome to the Dollar Store Craft Challenge! Several of my blogging friends and I have each created a project using items from the Dollar Store.  For this challenge, I'm sharing a black and white dinosaur I crocheted with yarn purchased from my local Dollar Tree. It was a really fun and quick project I made using the Bohasaurus pattern by Mama Made Minis. The Bohasaurus is a mix between a stuffed toy and a lovey blanket, so only the head and tail are stuffed. The body is not stuffed making it extra cuddly like a blanket.
I went to the Dollar Tree and found the yarn. They have a bunch of different kinds of Premier yarns.

Since this project is for a chunky yarn, I decided to buy the Premier Just Chenille yarn. I bought black and white. I was hoping they'd have gray, but they didn't.

I started by crocheting the head with the white yarn. The pattern says to use size 7mm and 8mm crochet hooks, but I ended up using 5.5mm and 6mm crochet hooks. I decided to add black safety eyes

After the head, you crochet the body onto the head. After the body, I made the tail, which I decided to add black stripes to.

The tail will be stuffed with Poly-Fil

After I stuffed and attached the tail, I made the arms. Then I crocheted the dino's spikes with black yarn and sewed them to the dino body. And the legs are knotted. For some reason, that's what really made me want to make this dino. I loved the knots in the legs. 😁

All the spikes are sewn on.

The Bohasaurus usually creates a dino that is about 23 inches long, but since this yarn isn't as think as a blanket yarn and I used a 5.5/6mm hook, this Bohasaurus is only 17 inches long.

I used the yarn to prop him up. 😁 This Bohasaurus belongs to my son, but I do have another listed in my Etsy shop. That one is in TMNT colors.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my Bohasaurus! Please scroll down to check out the creations of the other bloggers below!

  2. This is adorable! You always make me want to learn to crochet more than just a simple blanket. You're so talented! I can't believe you have chenille yarn at your local Dollar Tree! We just moved into a new house this weekend, so I'm hoping me new local Dollar Tree will have some. I'm with you, those knotted legs are super cute for some reason! I just added a new collage to the group with everyone's project in it if you'd like to grab it.
    Happy hopping!

    1. Awwww Congrats Terri! That's so awesome! Crocheting for babies is so much fun. I crocheted a few blankets and hats for my babies. This is my first time making a crochet "stuffed animal." I'm sure whatever you make will be loved and treasured by the baby. Congrats again!
