Crochet Dishcloth and Sponge Set

Welcome to the February Sustainable Pinterest Challenge hosted by Julie from Sum of Their Stories & Gail from Purple Hues and Me. For this month's challenge, we are using inspiration from Pinterest to create things from/for the kitchen that are sustainable/eco-friendly.  As a crocheter, whenever I think of making something for the kitchen, my mind always goes to dishcloths! So I searched Pinterest for fun and quick dishcloth patterns, and I found a pin for a Bobble Stripe Crochet Dishcloth and a Crochet Sponge
I made the Crochet Sponge first. The front side has bobbles and the back side does not. I'm not sure what brand this yarn is. It was in my stash without a wrapper. It's not as thick as my Lily Sugar'n Cream yarn.

After crocheting the front and back, I crocheted the sides together.

The sponge is all done. See the bobbles.

As soon as I finished the sponge, I started working on the Bobble Stripe Crochet Dishcloth. I really love the texture the bobbles create.

I decided to add a single crochet border around the dishcloth.

While I've made crochet dishcloths before as gifts for my mom and aunts, I've never made any for myself to use. So I'm looking forward to using this dishcloth and sponge.

Right now the dishcloth and sponge are sitting on my counter waiting to be used.

I really enjoyed making the bobble dishcloth and sponge, and I definitely plan to make more. I still have several balls of cotton yarn in my yarn stash. 1. I made crochet cloths for us last Autumn and I've not looked back. They are SO much better to use than shop bought ones, I love them. I made 7 so I can sling them in the wash often, I think you'll be digging in that yarn stash to make yourself more soon! I read somewhere that the shop bought sponges take hundreds if not thousands of years to break down so this is a fantastic alternative.
The bobble texture on these is just lovely, enjoy using your new cloth and sponge!

    1. Thanks! You know, I have a hard time getting around to making things for myself, but I'm getting better. I've even made myself a couple ear warmers that I wear all the time. I've got to share those on here soon!

  6. I love these! I need to crochet a set for myself. I always wonder how well the yarn does with drying things. You'll have to let me know. I hate using paper towels, and only do so if it's absolutely necessary. This is the perfect sustainable alternative for a sponge as well! You can use them until they fall apart, keeping so many paper towels and sponges out of landfills. I'd love for you to come share them on my link parties! Crafty Creators is open Thursday thru Monday and Happiness is Homemade is open Sunday thru Thursday. I think our readers will love these too!
