Crochet Pencil Tote Bag

While the school year has ended for some, we still have a week and a half left in this school year here in WA. So I had teacher gifts on my mind. I've had this Pencil Tote Bag Pattern by Heart Sprinkle in my pattern stash for a while, and I think this pencil themed tote would be an awesome gift for a teacher. I'm so glad I finally got around to making it. It only took me a couple days to make it, and I really enjoyed making the hearts.
Cotton yarn is recommended for this tote bag, so I used I Love This Cotton in Pewter, Taupe, Curry, Dove, and Coral. I really like this cotton yarn and recommend it for this project.

I followed the pattern and started at the bottom, which is the eraser. I used the Coral yarn for the eraser. The pattern says to use a 4.5mm crochet hook, but I used a size 4mm/G crochet hook.

I crocheted the ferrule of the pencil with the Dove (light gray) and Pewter (dark gray) yarn.

For the yellow portion, I used the Curry yarn. I really love using my Composition Notebook yarn bowl with my pencil themed projects. It's my favorite yarn bowl.

The pattern says to use black yarn for the pencil lead, but I decided to us the Pewter (dark gray) yarn instead.

The pattern says to crochet about 63 rows for the strap, but I crocheted 75 rows since I used a smaller hook. I used a yarn needle to sew the strap onto the other side of the bag.

Ta-Da!

All done and ready to tote some stuff!😊

Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my Pencil Tote Bag! I think this would be a wonderful teacher's gift, and as a former teacher, I'm keeping this one for myself! If you'd like to make one, check out the Pencil Tote Bag Pattern by Heart Sprinkle.
