Crochet Pumpkin Placemat

Welcome to the September Pinterest Challenge, hosted by Erlene at My Pinterventures! The purpose of the Pinterest Challenge is to motivate us to not just pin, but to make it happen! For this month's challenge, we're creating pumpkin or Halloween projects inspired by pins we found on Pinterest. The Pin I chose is of a Pumpkin Placemat made with crochet granny squares. Sounds fun, right! I like granny square projects, especially small granny squares because they work up really fast.

I used the same yarn recommended by the designer, which is Caron Simply Soft Gold Ombre. These granny squares were very quick to make. The pattern recommends using a 5mm crochet hook, but I always use a 4mm or 4.5mm crochet hook with Caron Simply Soft yarn.

I made the green stem with Red Heart Super Saver Green Tones.

I crocheted the four half squares, and I thought I did something wrong, but once you stitch them to the rest of the squares, they work out.

I lined up all the squares and half squares before stitching the together.

Stitching the squares together with a yarn needle...

They're all stitched together!

I added a border of single crochets, and then I blocked the pumpkin with my blocking mats and Knitter's Pride Knit Blockers.

While the placemat was blocked, I crocheted the green spiral.

All done!

I will definitely use this placemat while drinking pumpkin spice coffee and eating pumpkin pie.

It's pumpkin season!

Thanks so much for checking out my Pumpkin Placemat! If you'd like to make one, check out the Pumpkin Placemat pattern on Pinterest.

  10. I love how you can crochet something new for each season. BTW - what are the blocking mats for? Is it to help shape your project?

    1. Yes, the blocking mats and pins help to shape the project. I sprayed the placemat with water and pinned it to the blocking mats.

  11. Love how your placemat turned out. The ombre yarn is very attractive and I like that you made the project from a widely available brand of yarn.
