DIY Teacher Appreciation Gift

Welcome to the May Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month, I chose to create a trio of Crochet Cactus and Teacher Appreciation Flower Pots.

Teacher Appreciation Day/Week was last week, and I decided that in addition to giving my kiddos' teachers gift cards, I wanted to make something. So I searched Pinterest for ideas. I found several cute terracotta flower pot projects for teachers, and I thought it would be cute to put Crochet Flowering Cacti in the painted pots.

SUPPLIES FOR POT:
terracotta pot(s)
black chalkboard paint
yellow chalk paint
Sharpie
chalk marker

SUPPLIES FOR CACTUS:
Vanna's Choice Fern
Vanna's Choice Chocolate
Vanna's Choice White
yellow embroidery floss
Flowering Crochet Cacti pattern

To begin this project, I started with 3 terracotta pots. These pots come in a variety of sizes. I believe I used 4 inch pots.

I painted the pots with paint that I already had in my paint stash. I used a black chalkboard paint and a yellow chalk paint.

While waiting for the paint to dry, I crocheted the 3 cacti. The pattern for the cacti can be found on my Flowering Crochet Cacti post.

Once the paint was dry, I drew the lines and numbers for the ruler part of the pot using a black Sharpie marker. Then I used a chalk marker to write "Thank you for helping me GROW."

Thank you for helping me GROW!

The teachers loved their crochet cacti and flower pots. Yay! One teacher asked if I crocheted them myself. She said that made the gift even more special. Awwwww! I had my son write his name on the bottom of the pots, which is a really big deal since he's 3 years old and recently learned to write his name. He is so obsessed with writing his name. It's cute!

The pots and cacti fit perfectly in these Dollar Tree gift bags. I also included gift cards, thank you cards with a personal message, a Best Teacher Ever notepad with matching pin, and candy.

Thanks for checking out my Teacher Appreciation gift. These would also be great end of the school year gifts for teachers.

  1. These are just adorable. And your little one wrote his name on them too - awhh.
I have pinned this sort of thing in the past too, in fact I think I might have a half made one knocking about somewhere, I should dig it out from the depths of my crochet bag and just get it finished!

  9. Who wouldn't love a delightful gift like this? Love the crocheted cacti, too, and I imagine those who don't crochet could come up with something else to fill those cute little pots!

    1. Thanks Lydia! On the post that I pinned, the crafter filled the pot with pretty flowers. I've also seen them filled with candy and school supplies like pencils or crayons. 😊
