I love mug rugs! I use them everyday, and I love making them, so I just had to create a set of patriotic mug rugs since Memorial Day and Independence Day are just around the corner. For this mug rug, I used fabric scraps left over from my daughter's Patriotic Patchwork Wrap Dress. Anyhoo, I've been seeing a lot of Dresden plates, so I finally decided to give it a try. I made a trip to Joann's to buy an acrylic Dresden tool, and I ended up buying a bunch of other things including fabric to add to my already pretty large stash.
This was my first time quilting with zig zag lines.
I used fabric featuring the Statue of Libery, stars, and stripes for the back side of the mug rugs. I quilted this side with basic straight lines along the white stripes. I sewed navy blue bias tape around the edges to finish off the mug rugs.
The front sides of the mug rugs are just a little bit different. I used starry fabric for the half circle on this one and....
the back
I'm ready for my coffee! I drink coffee just about everyday. This Marilyn Monroe mug is my favorite mug, and I love hazel nut and vanilla flavored coffee.
